These are my illustrations for the Burberry fall 2013 collection. I wanted to capture the heavy embellishments, animal prints and 'I heart classics' trench coats you will find in this collection. Initially deciding to illustrate this collection was down to my interest of Burberry as a brand. I was interested in the re-branding that has come about since the arrival of Christopher Bailey at Burberry. It's undeniable that Burberry had a mixed consumer base (particularly in the late 90's) and for a brand that has a lot of fake reproductions to contend with I think this really blurred their audience. This has since changed, and more recently they have tried to reach out to a younger audience with their live music acts at their Regent Street store and choice in models for their campaign.
I chose to not focus on the faces in the illustrations as I feel this keeps the potential audience of who would wear these designs quite open. I think this collection really could be worn by women of a varied age.
